In August 2015 we changed our name to Te Whāriki Takapou.

Our new name reflects the collaborative health promotion and research work we do nationwide to support other sexual and reproductive health organisations to improve services for Maori.

Our previous name, Te Puāwai Tapu, was given to us at a time when we were a newly-formed organisation providing frontline service delivery of sexuality education in schools in Wellington.

Te Whāriki Takapou embodies the metaphor of the whāriki takapau as a being the foundation or platform upon which whakapapa is sustained from generation to generation.
